which required the release of these documents. Of course, we also know that there are another 2.5 million documents that are classified. The law requires the DOJ to release this list of all government officials and politically exposed individuals.

But neither the Epstein law nor the DOJ defined what exactly constitutes politically exposed. So there are a lot of different names here,

with, as you said, very little context. That includes people Epstein never met, including Princess Diana, Janis Joplin, and Elvis Presley.

The DOJ noted that this could be because some people ended up in the files. After all, they were part of press clippings that easily made their way into emails.

How do they react to this? Ali Rogin: We heard from both Congressmen Ro Khanna and Thomas Massey over the weekend, who are leading the charge for more information.

In a post on X, Khanna said that the DOJ is once again deliberately muddying the waters with the list they provided. And he called for three actions,

Release the full files, stop protecting the predators, and just correct the names of the survivors.

And Massey said that the DOJ still has to produce internal documents explaining their decision-making in refusing to investigate or prosecute certain individuals.

So, Amina, it seems like this is far from over. Amina Nawaz: Meanwhile, we know that the fallout has spread abroad. Several people in Europe faced backlash as Epstein’s pleas were released.

The backlash here in the US has been more muted, though what do we know about it? Ali Rogin: In Europe, it seems like there’s an Epstein domino effect. In the UK, we’ve seen.

Royal families and politicians in Sweden, Norway, France, and Slovakia are all under fire. So it seems like the inclusion in the files doesn’t indicate any wrongdoing,

But in Europe, the court of public opinion has clearly spoken its mind. Here in the US, though, the reaction has been, as you said, muted, and there have been departures and resignations from lower-level people.

Talent executive Casey Wasserman announced that he would be selling his firm because of his links to Ghislaine Maxwell. Obama-era White House lawyer Kathy Roehmler resigned as chief legal officer for Goldman Sachs after the release of her emails with Epstein. 

And Hyatt Hotels Chairman Tom Pritzker said he deeply regrets his association with Epstein and Maxwell and is stepping down from his position effective immediately. But, ahem, there are plenty of other high-profile political figures going about their business, including former Trump adviser and MAGA star Steve Bannon and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
