Trump ends job protections for thousands of federal workers

Up to 50,000 career federal employees lost their job security after the Trump administration announced changes to the government’s civil service system on Thursday.

The changes, released by the Office of Personnel Management, or OPM, would give President Donald Trump the ability to make hiring and firing decisions, fulfilling one of his campaign promises.

There are thousands of people here in Washington, D.C., who work for the federal government. Carolyn Levitt called the changes a good thing on Thursday.
